Legal & Compliance Associate
What’s Yonder?
“It's as if Time Out, Amex and Monzo had a baby” - Will T, Yonder Member
We’re building the financial membership of the future. One that works for how you live now. Not how your parents banked in the ‘90s.
Yonder combines credit or debit in one membership, designed to be fair, flexible, and actually enjoyable to use. No confusing terms. No dusty points system. Just rewards that actually feel rewarding - from bao to beer to a boarding pass.
Sounds cool. What’s my part in this?
Over the last year we've added a debit card, a free membership tier, hundreds of new independent partners around the country, countless product improvements and our personal favourite, Yonder Hotels, a new way to use Yonder points on hotels around the world. We've maintained a 4.5 TrustPilot rating and our customers really love us (and we love them back... hi!).
Over the last few years, we’ve grown from just an idea to a beautiful, fully regulated financial product that our members absolutely love - especially the support we provide them.
We are looking for a Legal & Compliance Associate who will be working with our Head of Legal & Compliance (Bryony), and Senior Compliance Manager (Deepti) to help protect our business and ensure we achieve Yonder’s goals, the right way.
You must be a qualified lawyer who is excited by the challenge of learning something new and is not afraid of being out of your comfort zone. We want someone who is highly entrepreneurial - you are always asking “how can we make this better” - and is not daunted at the prospect of learning to be a generalist at a fast-growing FinTech.
What you’ll do
You will be getting stuck into all things legal & compliance at Yonder. This means:
Owning our day-to-day legal operations & helping with legal queries - you’ll be the first port of call for member support escalations (e.g section 75 claims and DSARs), marking up commercial contracts, and keeping our corporate housekeeping in order. You’ll advise on a wide variety of legal matters, focusing always on a pragmatic way forward and never sweating the small stuff;
Keeping Yonder compliant - working with Deepti, you’ll help deliver our compliance monitoring plan, auditing our processes, policies and controls, identifying and fixing gaps, and being a shining example of good record-keeping at Yonder;
Finding ways to work smarter - you will help draft and maintain templates, create repeatable processes and automate reviews where possible. Claude will become your best friend, but you will also have the skills to do the basics, knowing that AI is not necessarily the smartest solution to everything.
You're a great fit if you
✅ Like autonomy and thrive when given lots of responsibility. This isn’t the kind of role where you’ll be told how to do tasks, and you won’t be part of a large legal & compliance function with set ways of doing things. Bryony will be there to guide you, but day-to-day you’ll need to be comfortable using your own judgment, pushing projects forward and flagging when you hit a roadblock or delay.
✅ Enjoy solving difficult problems and stay cool under pressure: We’ve got ambitious goals and we like to move fast. You need to be comfortable getting to grips with new areas of law, solving problems quickly and keeping your cool in order to find solutions if things go slightly pear-shaped.
✅ Are super practical: No-one likes an unnecessary checklist - you must love to think creatively and enjoy finding innovative solutions to even the most standard of legal or compliance issue.
You won’t be a great fit if you
👎 Like to sit on the fence: We pride ourselves on good decision making at Yonder, but we don’t always have perfect information and are not afraid to make mistakes (as long as we learn from them). This is not the role for a lawyer who doesn’t like to make decisions in case they make the wrong one.
👎 Avoid “boring” work: Let’s face it, not all work is the “fun” stuff, and sometimes the most valuable work we need to do is dull. If you’re someone who tends to cut corners and can’t see the value in the mundane (e.g data privacy documentation), then this job is not for you.
👎 Want to be a specialist: When we say you will be getting stuck into all things legal & compliance, we mean it. You don’t need to have years of consumer credit or fintech experience, you just need to be willing to work hard, learn on the job and be comfortable with areas of legal and compliance you haven’t worked on before.
